Atlantic 10 Conference Patriot League Officials Invitation Try Out Camp 2006
This season, the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Patriot League will offer two different opportunities. The first is strictly an Officials’ Try Out Camp in conjunction with Blue Chip Basketball at their Shoot Out in State College, PA on the campus of Penn State University The tournament will feature only current Juniors and Seniors and is an NCAA sanctioned recruiting event. Major college coaches will be present recruiting at this time. This camp is strongly recommended for all current Atlantic 10 and Patriot League staff members who have NOT worked a major conference Semi-Final or Championship or have NOT worked an NCAA Regional or higher. This campis also recommended for any official wishing to try out for the Atlantic 10 and/or Patriot League Staff for the 2006 - 2007 season. Current Div I experience is required. Div II and III officials may be considered if they possess NCAA or NAIA Post Season experience. This year the try out camp is one and ½ days. Sessions are either: Session 1 July 5 2:15 PM to 11:00 PM AND July 6 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM Session 2 July 7 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM AND July 8 8:00 AM to 2:15 PM The cost Session 1 and 2 is: $150.00. NEW INITIATIVE - Developmental CAmp The new initiative is an INVITATIONAL ONLY Developmental Camp. This is a four-day camp for officials with little to no Division I experience. Division II, III, and High School Officials will be invited based upon the following criteria: 1. Attendance at a previous developmental camp 2. The recommendation of a Div II or III Coordinator 3. The recommendation of an Atlantic 10 or Patriot League Coach, Official, or Observer 4. Assessment of a letter of application with officiating resume This camp will be mostly funded by a grant from the Atlantic 10 Conference. The cost to applicants for the four days is only $100.00. This camp will also be conducted at Penn State University in conjunction with Blue Chip Basketball. This camp will feature younger players of high quality between the ages of 14 - 16. Please note that officials invited to this session will receive instruction, classroom, and Q+A with veteran officials. THIS IS NOT A TRY OUT CAMP! Session 3 Developmental Camp begins on July 9 @ 2:15 PM and ends July 12 @ 2:15 PM. This initiative has been created to assist in the training and development of younger officials wishing to make the transition to Division I Women’s Basketball and for the development of current Division I officials wishing to develop the skills needed to serve as a crew chief in a major conference. Candidates will be invited to return for up to 5 years. Each candidate will receive on and off court instruction, the opportunity to actually work with some of the top clinicians, to ask questions and literally be surrounded with basketball for four days. THERE WILL BE A PRE-CAMP MEETING AT 12:00 NOON on July 9th. THIS CAMP IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS: 1. Current Div I officials who work less than 25 Div I games 2. Current Div II and III officials who have not had top level game experience 3. Current High School officials 4. Former players from any Div I, II, III institutions Due to grant funding by the Atlantic 10, the cost of the camp is minimal and will remain at $100.00 for the next two years. 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Patriot League Camp Info Letter Page 2 PERTINENT CAMP INFORMATION · Applicants for either “each” session must provide their own housing, meals and transportation. · Games are 15 minute stop time halves with a five minute halftime.
